Chevaliar Roche Society (CRS) is a Development Support Organisation, registered under the Societies and Trust Registration Act, Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, and Income Tax Act. It was founded by Mr.James Derose on 2nd March 1990 vide registration number 17/90 to commemorate the prominent Tamil leader Chevaliar J.L.P.Roche Victoria who had served as food minister of Government of Tamil Nadu.
Chevaliar Roche Society supports marginalized sections of society, particularly the fisherfolk in their struggle for their basic rights and grass root Community Based Organizations (CBOs/SHGs) in their development initiatives. CRS constantly strive to generate awareness on basic human rights and convince policy makers for formulating propoor policies. The thematic focus area of Chevaliar Roche Society is Empowerment, with specific focus on Sustainable Livelihood, Governance, Human Rights, Health, Conservation of Marine Wealth, and Disaster Mitigation. the target group for Chevaliar Roche Society and economically disadvantaged people specifically women, children, and youth.
Chevaliar Roche Society believe in the essential dignity of people and their capacity to overcome the problems and pressures which can crush or exploit them. These may be rooted in climate and geography, or in the more complex areas of economics, politics, and social conditions. We are a partnership of people who share this belief, people who regardless of faith, sex, social order, o politics work together for the basic human rights of food, shelter and reasonable conditions of life. We believe that if shared equitably, there are sufficient material resources in the world to find a measure of fulfillment and to meet their basic human needs.
Chevaliar Roche Society is managed by a group of hightly talented individuals committed to bring about a change in the society in favour of the disadvantaged and oppressed. Paul Gowri is the President of the organization. Mr.Jerry Darwin the Vice President, and Mr.M.Gurusamy the Treasurer. Dr.Tagore Derose is the Secretary. All these individuals have been in the field of development work for more than 20 years. There are 50 experienced and qualified staff members working in CRS 32 of whom are female members. |
