The Government of india, SSCP-CCDP which links gulf of mannar and bay of Bengal envisages to spend 2% of the total cost of the project for the welfare of the coastal community. CCDP was evolved in 2006 to benefit communities in the coastal districts. Chevaliar Roch Society is selected as the State level mother NGO for consultation and implementation of the project. Initially there were 10 ngos involved in implementing the project under the direct supervision of crs in the 6 coastal districts which has now gone upto 52 ngos. In the first year under the project 250 uneducated fisher folk were given training in entrepreneurship development who were able to find jobs or start their own enterprises. By n ow more than 10000 people have been trained i9n various income generation activities such as production of phenol, ink, bleaching powder, candle, washing soap, agarbatti, liquid blue, soft drink, ornamental products food processing etc., 80% of the pople trained under the project have been able to find employment. Many who have undergone the training have been assisted with bank loans and subsidies to start their own enterprises.
Coastal Livelihood Project
The Tuticorin Port Trust and the industries, together have evolved a coastal livelihood project to benefit the coastal communities. The project to benefit the coastal communities the project is initiated in 25% grant from Tuticorin Port Trust. There are 12 NGOs selected for the implementation of the project where in CRS is selected for the district level consultant. Under this project youth from the coastal communities are given training in computer operations, garment designing, beauty care, marine mechanic, shipping management, nursing assistant. To date 960 people have been trained most of whom have been able to find employment.
Fishmeal Industry
With the assistant under the socio economic project, from social welfare board of the central government of India, crs organization a fishmeal production centre in 1994 at Trespuram in Madavan colony. The project provided permanent employment to 20 women.
Awareness Programme for Fishermen:
Aided by Marine Products Export Development Authority and NETFISH, Chevaliar Roche Society has been retained as trainers of traditional fishermen in value addition of their catch. The project includes, group formation, Fish landing centre maintance, Creating awareness among fishermen about conservation and enumeration, Preservation of catch and value addition, Practical fishing exercises in the sea, Honorarium Distribution, etc |
