            Governments, and NGOs . Chevaliar Roche Society was an implementing partner to a number of relief and rehabilitation   programs organized by various organizations. Some of the activities undertaken by us include:

Free Food Distribution to Tsunami Victims:

            This programme was sponsored by ATWT and aimed at providing 5 kg of rice and related masala powder was given to each identified families. In all Rs. 1 lakh worth food was distributed in the days immediately following tsunami.

Free Medical Camps for tsunami victims:

            This project was aided by Direct Relief Internetional, USA, through Madurai Meenatchi Mission Hospital. Medical  Camps were organized in the tsunami affected  areas for a continuous period of 138 days. Our staff and volunteers brought the sick and disabled to the camps. The kind and merciful treatment of the veteran doctors and staff of MMMH provided much needed reassurance and relief to the sick and affected.

Free Female Nursing Assistant Course for Tsunami Visctims:

            The Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board selected Chevaliar Roche Society as the implementing agency to conduct free Female Nursing Assistant course for women who have passed 10th and 12th dwelling in the slums. 25girls were admitted for a months course. They were given  uniform  and  stipend by the Board. The Theory course was conducted at our centre and practicals at Government Medical College Hospital and Government primary Health Centre. The students were also placed in private  hospital upon completion of the course and the Board asked us to continue the progrmme.

Vocational Training Programme for Tsunami Youth Victims:

            This project is aided by Caritas India through Functional Vocational Training Forum. Under this we organized 3 Courses. 40 youth were given training in Nursing Assistant. 40 youth were given training in 3 batcher of 20 women  each were selected for Multi-Skill Trianing programme. Under this 20 each illiterate women were selected for training in a) Essential products like Bleaching powder, ink, Phenol, Candle , Washing Powder, Cleaning Powder, Liquid Blue, Tooth Powder. b) Food Products such as Appalam, pickle, milk products, snacks, cool drinks, c) Fish Products such as fish pickle, crab pickle, cutlets, and ornamental products form sea shells.

Proparation of Disaster Risk Management Plan:(Aided by UNDP through six coastal district collectorates)

            Following December 2004 tsunami UNDP in association with the Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu decided to prepare a DRMP for 6 districts of Tamil Nadu namely Kanyakumari,  Nagapattinam, Caddalore, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallure and Neelagiri. It was decided to use the services of NGOs working in the area for preparing the Plan. Accordingly, Chevalliar Roche Society was selected by the  District Collector of Kanyakumari to prepare the Disaster Risk Management Plan in 2007. The plan preparation included creating  aeareness about disasters among officials, counselors, panchayat presisents, ward members, service organizations, health workers, and general public. It also included education on types of disasters, emergency steps  to be taken, mapping of resources, vulnerable areas, vulnerable people, and alternative roads. The exercise level, village level, Municipality level Disaster Management Team. The DMT includes ex-service men, doctors, nurses, JCB operators, carpenters, NCC and NSSS volunteers and also ward members.

           Various teams such as : a) Early Warning Team, b) Residential Management Team, c) Search and Rescue Team, d) First Aid Team, e) Water, Sanitation and dead body removal Team , g) Monitoring Team, h) Advisory Team and i)Patrol Team are set up. Each team consists of 10-15 members and sensitization training was given to each team and mock drills were organized. Directory of important officers, care homes, vulnerable places, and resource places with phone numbers, location map with photos are included in the Plan.

Preparation of Disaster Risk Management Plan-Second Phase :(Aided by UNDP through six coastal district collectorates)

            As a continuation of the UNDP programme it was decided to include preparation of DRMP for 7 other districts of Tamil Nadu namely, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Vilipuram, tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramnathpuram and Pudukkottai. Chevaliar Roche Society was selected to prepare DRMP for Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramnathpuram, Thanjavur and Thiruvarur Districts. Plans are prepared at the District level, Municipality level, Town Panchayat level, Block level, Rural Panchayat level and Village level. The details are:
